My personal style has always been modern. When we purchased our mid century modern house the first thing we did was fill it with our favorite modern furniture pieces and replace old lighting with updated monorail lighting fixtures. Monorail lighting is one of the newest and most popular types today. You can find a wide range of styles from manufacturers like Tech, LBL, Tiella, Wilmette and Translite.
You're going to have a wide choice of monorails, from bendable extruded aluminum square tube tracks to bare and insulated cables. Some rails come pre-bent, some straight and you can bend them to fit your needs. You can buy these systems in kits or separately. My husband and I came up with a unique way to choose the perfect system for our home. He chose the rail system and I chose the fixtures.
I loved my part. I was amazed at all the different types of lighting fixtures are available. I used a different one for each room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom and home office. We used the same monorail kit in each room so they have a similar, but different look. In our home office I chose an Aero head with a colorful dichroic shade. The shade helps to diffuse the light from the halogen bulb. It looks like it belongs in an office but the shade softens the look up a bit.
In the kitchen I chose glass pendants. On the counter where I serve I chose Sophia which is a millefiore glass shade. Where I needed task lighting I used Cam Tech lighting which has a very clean line which doesn't interfere with the millefiore glass shades I chose.
In our bedroom I wanted modern but soft lighting fixtures. I chose a beautifully shaped shade called Melrose. I chose a multi colored one. Most of the lights that we chose were from the manufacturer Tech Lighting. We were able to find our selections on line and they arrived at our home within a matter of days.
We've had so much fun updating our home with our new lighting that we'll be doing the bathrooms next!

These monorail lighting fixtures sound really neat. I am going to have to check them out at the home store. I have been looking for something in a modern style.
