Cable Lighting Fixtures

Fun And Funky Cable Lighting Fixtures

I remember the first time I saw cable lighting fixtures. We were in a small locally owned art gallery. I was absolutely amazed at the lights suspended from a cable, each one illuminating a piece of artwork. I liked it so much I asked the gallery owner about them. He said that he and his partner installed the low voltage lights themselves. They had specifically chosen them because they were so easy to move around to shine exactly where light was needed. I was even more surprised when I discovered the wide array do different heads.

I couldn't wait to find them for my home. I know that lighting helps set the mood and tone for a home. I wanted to put this cable lighting in my kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, so I knew that I'd be wanting several different types of heads.  When we went online, and visited our local home store we were overwhelmed by the variety of choices. Many different manufacturers make them, such as  Tech, Lithonia, Malibu, Phillips, Hampton Bay, and Kichler. I knew that I wanted to use a chrome head in the kitchen, but I wanted softer glass lighting in the bathroom and bedroom.

We saw cable lighting kits in a variety of lengths, 12 foot, 20 foot and 30 foot. The cable can be cut to the desired length. We then saw a variety of adjustable heads, some of them on telescopic arms, some with hanging arms and some with articulated arms. The kit that we chose for our kitchen is extremely modern, it's chrome and has eight Giro-Giro Dual Axis Heads. Everything you need comes in the kit including cable, wall mounting hardware, vertical supports and transformer. I chose to use hanging Wok pendants in the bathroom. For a softer, but still modern look in my bedroom I chose cylindrical shades in an Indian silk.

In my bedroom I am using this low voltage lighting to highlight the headboard and several pieces of artwork, just as I saw it done the first time I saw them.

This article has given me some good ideas. I think this cable lighting will be perfect in our living room to illuminate the artwork on the walls.
